AI, ML, Deep Learning, GenAI, LLMs, RAG, Agentic AI… Everyone is talking about them. But here’s the problem: Many people use these terms interchangeably. They’re not the same thing. Here’s the simplest way I understand the modern AI stack 👇 🧠 AI — The big umbrella The broader field of building machines that can perform tasks that normally require human intelligence. 📊 ML — Learning from data Instead of programming every rule, models learn patterns from data. 🧬 Deep Learning — Neural networks at scale A type of ML that uses multiple neural-network layers to learn complex patterns from text, images, audio, and other data. ✨ GenAI — Creating new content Systems that can generate text, images, audio, video, and code. 💬 LLMs — Language-focused foundation models Models built to understand and generate human language. 📚 RAG — Giving LLMs access to knowledge Instead of relying only on what the model learned during training, RAG retrieves relevant information from external sources and provides it to the model. 🤖 Agentic AI — Giving AI the ability to act Agents can reason through tasks, choose tools, execute actions, observe results, and continue through multi-step workflows.
